Wynetta Reed Obituary

Greenwood, SC- Wynetta G. Reed, 79, of 204 Raintree Lane, widow of Russell L. Reed, gained her angel wings on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at her home. Born in Hodges, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Gilchrist and the late Katherine H. Gilchrist. She was a member of Dunham Temple C.M.E. Church where she served as a missionary and Stewardess, and Brewer High School Graduate, Class of 1962. Her working career was with Nantex and later moved to Monsanto in 1972, until she received a severance package and retired in 1986. She later did some domestic work for the Bradfords, whom her mother previously worked in that home as well. She spent several years caring for an aunt and uncle in Washington DC, returned home to Greenwood, South Carolina where after a short period of time her mother passed away, and she was left to care for a sister for 16 years, and a brother for 19 years. After that she then took the time to enjoy life, spend time with family and friends and her 2 grandchildren whom she adored. Wynette enjoyed her quarterly meets with her high school class of 1962, doing crossword puzzles in the newspaper, reading novels, biographies, and enjoyed reading “The left behind” series.

She is preceded in death by, one son, Gregory D. Gilchrist; one brother, Samuel Heller; and three sisters, Barbara Aiken, Mable Gilchrist, and Annie P. Gilchrist.

She leaves to cherish and honor her memories, one son, Richard A. Reed of Greenwood, SC; one daughter, Carla Renitta Reed of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Mary D. Gilchrist, and Betty Jo Brown both of Greenwood, SC, and Gwendolyn H. Williams of Columbia, SC; two grandsons, JaCaden Reed and Khase Reed; one niece reared partially in the home, Monet H. Varner; a special niece, Kathy (Wendell) Levister; a special nephew, Dennis Gilchrist (Emma Miller); special friends, Mary Frazier, Archie Grier, Jackie Satterwhite, Sarah Henderson, and Loretta Wideman; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Services will be 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Dunham Temple C.M.E Church, conducted by Rev. James McKee. Burial will follow in the Evening Star Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc. Please be mindful and practice social distancing and wear a mask.
