Willie Joe Smith, 74, of 602C Oak Ave, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Jozei Smith and Ruth Perkins Smith.
He attended Brewer High School and retired from National Textiles and was a member of St. John A.M.E., were he served as a trustee, steward and grounds keeper.
He survived by one son, Reggie (Jacquelyn) Smith, of Greenwood, his mother; Ruth Perkins Smith, of Greenwood; two grandchildren; Makita Smith and Ashley Gray, both of Greenwood, three great-grandchildren; Latajah Gray, Milani Campbell and Taylan Gray, all of Greenwood; a special friend Oraleen Wade, of Greenwood; two brothers Doug Smith and Bruce Smith, both of Greenwood; three sisters, Ethel Gaines and Denise Smith, both of Greenwood and Lizzie M. (Willie) Speaks, of Stockbridge, GA, a special aunt, Mary Alice Perkins, of Columbus, OH; best friend Robert (Bob) Kennedy and a host of relatives and friends to cherish his memory.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, with Bishop Emmanuel Spearman, officiating. The body will be placed in the church at noon and burial will follow at Evening Star Cemetery
