Wanda Evette Backus

Ms. Wanda Gilchrist Backus, 52, departed this life on Friday, October 08, 2021. She was born and raised in Greenwood, SC, on August 8, 1969. She was a Graduate of Greenwood High School Class of 1987 and received two degrees from Piedmont Technical College in Surgical Technician and Radiology. Later she relocated to Charleston, SC where she worked for 23 years at Roper St. Francis Hospital.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother Mary (Dora) Gilchrist of Greenwood, SC; her father, Willie Rapp of Greenwood, SC; one daughter, Kenya N. Backus formerly of Greenwood, SC, and one granddaughter, Zhaire Brown both residing in Charleston, SC; her loving aunt Betty Brown; a loving companion Keith Mitchell of Charleston, SC; a best friend and Ex-husband Larry (Kasaan) Backus; a best friend Allison Jones and Bert Gilliam both of Greenwood, SC; and a host of aunts, friends, and cousins that loved her like a sister.

Graveside Services will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at The Evening Star Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1-6 p.m., October 15, 2021, at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc.
