Obituary

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023….Trustee Roy Parks Jr. transitioned from labor to reward. His faith held strong to the very end. He was born to the late Roy Parks, Sr. And Lonsome Roundtree and also raised by his stepmother… Carrie Mae Parks. 

 

He was born and raised in the beautiful state of South Carolina in the small town of Callison. Roy was educated by the Greenwood County School System and attended the Brewer High School. 

 

For over 35 years he was employed by the Monsanto Manufacturing Company. During and even after retirement he was a community advocate, helping anyone that he could. If he saw you, you were sure to have a lengthy conversation, full of humor but laced in wisdom. Roy was a professional funeral supporter, if he knew you or if he knew anyone in the family, he made sure he was there to support and show love as only he could.

 

Roy Parks, Jr. joined the Calvary Grove Baptist Church at the tender age of 5 and have been a faithful member for 78 years. He seen people come and go but his support never wavered. At Calvary Grove, he was elevated to the office of Trustee and served well and did so with abundant joy for over 50 years in that position. He never asked for anything in return as he realized great was his reward in the heavens. As a faithful Trustee, he made sure the church grass was cut, he cleaned the church, served as the unofficial church plumber, he opened and closed the church and so much more. As he got older and was unable to work in the church as he used to, his presence remains strong until the very end. Roy had a special love for Pastors and always looked out for their well-being. 

 

Roy Parks Jr. is preceded in death by his parents: Roy Parks Sr. Lonsome Roundtree, and Carrie Mae Parks. Three Brothers: Willie Dye, Wiley Dye Jr and Lawerence Parks. 

 

Precious Memories linger to those who love him most, His five daughters: Alfadella Sims, Sharon Smith Jackson, Katherine Tolden, Selanie Davis (Pedro), Latekia Jenkins. Two sons: Lionel Jenkins, Harold Tolden. Two Sisters: Mother Jennie V. Faucette, Mother Corena Harling.

Twelve grandchildren, Twelve great grandchildren. One Goddaughter, Two God-Grandsons. A Very Special Friend: Ms. Mamie Duncan. And a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his Calvary Grove Baptist Church Family.

 

Services will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 2:30 P.M. at Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor E. Lamar Richardson, Officiating and Rev. Leroy Robertson, Presiding, burial will follow at Calvary Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 P.M. Public viewing will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023, 1:00-6:00 P.M. at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc.  The family is at the homes of his Special friend Mamie Duncan, 104 old ninety- six Hwy and his daughter Selaine Davis, 104 Hillcrest Drive.  Please be mindful and practice social distancing and wear a mask.
