Reverend Arthur Kemp Obituary

Reverend Arthur Lee Kemp, 72, Husband of Doris Ann Kemp, went to sleep on December 6, 2021. Born in Callison, SC, he was the son of the Late Carrie Lee Nelson Kemp and the late William T. Booker. He was a graduate of Brewer High School Class of 1967, Lander University and ITC School of Theology. He also served in the US Army.  He was formerly employed with Greenwood Mills (Durst Plant) and later retired from the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department, both of Greenwood, SC. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where he served in many compacities until he received his call to pastor Mine Creek Baptist Church, in Johnston, SC, his First Love, and then he was called to Pastor “One of the Greatest Churches in the World” Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, in North Augusta, SC, where he served for 27 years. Also, he was also affiliated with the E&M Convention of South Carolina, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and Pillars of Ministry of North Augusta, SC, where he served as 2nd Vice.  He was also a member of various other Local, State and National Organizations.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Doris Ann, of the home; two loving and devoted sons: Jeffrey (Bree) Williams, of Newport News, VA, and Sterling (Yolanda) Kemp, of Greenwood, SC; one loving and devoted daughter, Ursula (Jamal) McFadden, of Greenwood, SC. Six grandchildren: Adrian Burton of Sacramento, CA; Darion (Jacqueline) Williams of Yorktown, VA; Kenna Williams of Newport News, VA; Zoe Noelle Cureton of Williamston, SC; Pernell Harris, Jr., and Dyson Kemp, both of Greenwood, SC; and three great-grandchildren: Adrian Burton, Jr., Kendrick Burton, and Amir Burton; two brothers, Reverend William H. (Mary) Booker, of Promised Land and Cornell (Rosemarie) Booker, of Greenwood; four sisters, Barbara (AL) Thompson and Diane Payne, both of Greenwood; Sharon (Henry) Wright, of Atlanta, GA; and Dorothy Moss, Ninety Six, SC; Special Cousins that are like siblings: James (Bessie) Gilchrist, Ella Robinson, Nelson Gilchrist and Neutrice Childs.

 

Many knew and loved him so he obtained many God Sisters, God Brothers, God Children, Special nieces, nephews and cousins too many to name. So If you called him Daddy, Grandaddy, Brother, Pop, Uncle Brother, Unk, Uncle Arthur or Cousin/Daddy – “You know who you are” along with a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Services will be held Sunday, December 12, 2021, at 1pm at the Little River Multicultural Complex, with Rev. Michael Butler, officiating, and Rev. William H. Booker, Sr., presiding. The body will be placed in the Complex at 12pm. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park and Mausoleum. Mask must be worn at the service and temperatures will be checked. Viewing will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 1-6pm at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc. Please be mindful and practice social distancing and wear a mask.
