Mary "Ray" Moore Chapman, widow of the late Arloy "Jack" Chapman, transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home, Sunday, November 12, 2023. She was born to the parentage of MC Johnson and Virginia Moore Johnson omm June 17, 1934. Her early years of life was spent with her grandparents Samuel and Bessie Moore. In the home of her grandparents an immeasurable bond was established with her sister Etrulla Moore and cousins Bette Moore and June Moore.
Mary joined the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church during her early childhood. Throughout her phenomenal life, she was always connected with various churches from the east coast to the west coast. Upon retirement, Mary relocated to South Carolina. She re-established her membership status at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church under the tenure of Rev. Raymond Adams.
Mary moved from Greenwood, South Carolina to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was affectionately received in the home of Uncle Thomas C. and Pearl Moore Jackson, where little Peggy Ann Moore was her shadow with very close proximity. Mary has always been a very optimistic while thriving on positive career goals.
Mary embarked upon her educational goals that were inclusive of Ben Franklin High School. She attended Nursing School in Santa Monica, California, receiving the status Registered Nurse. Her School and work were in alignment for acceleration and enhancement of her career goals in Health Care. This afforded Mary a opportunity of providing responsible healthcare, while rendering services and support to patients and families in carious healthcare settings. Mary was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Tubercursis Healthcare Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Also, she was employed by The Veterans Administration Hospital in Santa Monica, California. Mary retired from the administration position from this establishment.
Mary posed an avid career showing great enthusiasm and was extremely and was eager to convey her passion for nursing, while ensuring quality care. From the East Coast to the West Coast, Mary followed the traditional role of working in varied hospital settings. Mary was the family's Registered Nurse. She was a trailblazer.
Mary was a very beautiful lady intrinsically and extrinsically motivated from within. She met Arley "Jack" Chapman, while residing in Santa Monica, California.. An intimate close union created a deep love affection, leading to a marital relationship. On May 1, 1979, in Santa Monica, California, Arley "Jack" Chapman and Mary Moore were united in Holy Matrimony.. Mr. and Mrs. Chapman enjoyed spending devoted time together, sharing varied fun activities and experimental traveling. Mary was predeceased by her husband.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories of love: Adopted children, Peggy Higgens and Stanley B. Martin; two stepsons, Mike and Danny Chapman of Arizona; two sisters, Lottie Mae Morton and Carolyn Johnson; four brothers, William Johnson, Waymond Johnson, Raymond (Mildred) Johnson and Larry Johnson (Mary) all of the Promiseland Community Greenwood, South Carolina and a very good friend Era Bell of Arizona. Mary's predeceased siblings are Etrulla Moore Brown, Bettie Moore, Robert Johnson, Willie Johnson, Curtis Johnson, and Ruby Johnson.
Mary (Family Trailblazer) legacy will forever live on through her children and siblings. Also, there is a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives. friends and caregivers to resonate fond memories of love.
Services will be 12:00 P.M. on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on Highway 221, conducted by Rev. Raymond Adams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be from 12:00 until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc.
