Mary Green Obituary

Mary Frances Griffin-Green affectionately known as Mae, 80, born May 27, 1943, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at The Hospice House of Greenwood. She graduated from the Ninety Six School District. Upon completion of school, she moved to New York, where she lived with her aunt and uncle, Willie and Jessie Pope and “sister” Diann Hill. While there, she met and married the love of her life, the late Willie Rafus Green.

Mae resided in New York for over 35 years, where she raised her family while doing the things she loved. Mae is most known for cooking and feeding whomever entered her home. In addition, she loved sewing and crocheting. Once Mae returned to Ninety Six, she reunited with her beloved church, Pine Pleasant Baptist Church, where she served as a Missionary and sang on the Senior Choir, until her passing. She was a member of the Zeta Amicae Society number 25 and a member of PAO Senior Program of Ninety Six Depot.

Mae leaves to cherish her memory her children: Teresa Thomas (Joseph), Willie “Randy” Griffin (Trella), Daisy Green, Angela Green-Mathis (Alvin) and Adrienne Burry. She also leaves 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, including Zariah Perkins, raised in the home. Mae is also survived by 3 siblings: Barbara Conway, John Griffin (Mae Francis “Kitty”), James Griffin, devoted friend, Willie Mae Caldwell “Granny” and a host of loving nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Although Mae will be truly missed, she is forever in our hearts, as she has reunited with her beloved husband, brothers and sisters all enjoying Pepsi Cola.

Services are noon on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Pine Pleasant Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Willie K. Cannady. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Evening Star Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc. The family is at the home. Arrangements are being handled by Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc.
