John Henry "Tip" Blocker Sr.

Mr. John Henry “Tip” Blocker, Sr., 95, of 1421 Martin Towne Road, Ninety Six, husband of Sarah Goode Blocker, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on October 4, 2023, at his home.  Born in Ninety Six, SC, he was the son of the late Jesse Blocker and the late Mary Syrkett Blocker.  He was a member of Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and formerly a Deacon and member of the Senior Choir. He retired from the Chickasaw Processing Company, Greenwood, SC.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Willie Mae Watts, Annie Florence Fisher and Dorothy Booker; one great granddaughter, Rodacia Parks.

You would often see Mr. Tip around the church, vacuuming, hauling off the garbage and having fun with the members after service. He loved to garden and shared the fruit of his labor with his family members, church members, friends and neighbors.  His motto was “give me my flowers while I am living”, and that’s exactly what he did for his family, friends and neighbors.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 68 years, Sarah Goode Blocker of the home; four sons: Deacon John Blocker, Jr. (Janet), Alonzo (Shirley) Blocker all of Hodges, SC, Darrell Blocker of Ninety Six, SC, and Garrett (Rosa) Blocker of Columbia, SC, three daughters: Patricia (Heyward) Kimble of Greenwood, SC, Annie Ellen McKee of Anderson, SC, and Linda (Gerald) Bynum of Kathleen, GA; one sister, Rosa Roundtree of Greenwood, SC, ten grandchildren, one grand-child born in the home, KaShandra (Candace) Blocker-Lacey; eleven great grandchildren, four  great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Goode, Jamaica, NY,  and other relatives and friend to mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Epworth, conducted by Rev. Dr. Danny R. Webb. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be from 1-6 pm Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Robinson and Son Mortuary. The family will be at 1421 Martin Towne Road, Ninety Six. The family will receive friends at the church from10-11 am. Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
