James Guylen Williams Obituary

Greenwood, SC- James G. “June Bug" Williams, 80, of 118 Biscayne Drive, husband of Hattie “Metta” Osborn Williams, transitioned over to heaven, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Self Regional Healthcare. Born in Donalds, South Carolina he was the son of the late Guylen Williams and the late Alice Rouse Williams. At an early age, James joined Mt. Olive AME Church, and later joined Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons for many years. He was a charter member of New Faith Tabernacle, where he served as a board member, Deacon, and a Sunday School Teacher. He was a graduate of Allen University, he retired from Greenwood School District 50 in 1995, and was an educator in the Abbeville County School District prior to coming to Greenwood School District 50, he served on the District 50 School Board for 12 years. He was an avid golfer, advocate for the youth community club; owner of James G. Williams Lawn Care, and was Sexton Emeritus at Rock Presbyterian church, and served as a custodian for Westminster Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by a son, Reginald Van Williams, and a daughter Lyndell Martin.



He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Hattie Williams of the home; one daughter, Dr. Felicia (Cardell) McGowan of Rock Hill, SC; one son, Vyus Fuller of Orangeburg, SC; two brothers, Larry Williams of Honea Path, SC, and Freddie (Renee) Williams of Ware Shoals, SC; five Sisters, Lena Williams of Baltimore, MD, Shirley Pratt and Edith Benjamin both of Honea Path, SC,  Christine (Bernard) Watson of Greenwood, SC, and Mary (Jerry) Foster of Charleston, SC; an adopted daughter, Shirley Mae (Stanley) Jones of Greenwood, SC; two god-children, Crystal (Hector) Galarza and Rico Cade, both of Killeen, TX; one sister-in-law, Pastor Gladys Downs of Augusta, Ga; and a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.



Services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Macedonia Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Bernard Norman.  The body will be placed in the church at 1:00 pm. Viewing will be from 1-6 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc. Please be mindful and practice social distancing and wear a mask.
