James Edward Downs

James Edward Downs, 75, 1313 East Cambridge Avenue, entered internal rest on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at his home. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Perry Downs and Lillie Mae Bivens Downs. James Downs was the youngest of eleven children. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church. 

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 40 years Brenda Downs of the home; two sons, Antares Shawn Mattison, Ashville, NC. And Jamie Downs of Charleston; five daughters, Wendy Wideman of Greenwood, Bridgette (James)Wilson of Fayetteville, NC, Sabrina (Jerome) Downs Chapman of Greenville, Jodi (Barry) Hentz, and Jamia Jackson, both of Greenwood; one stepson, Stanley (Ann) Moss of Charlotte, NC; one stepdaughter, Zandra Wideman of Greenwood; seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. William Booker Jr.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A viewing will be from 1:00 PM -6:00 PM Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc.  Please be mindful and practice social distancing and wear a mask.  Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
