Hattie Butler Aiken Obituary

Mrs. Hattie Lee Butler Aiken91 widow of Charlie Hugh Aiken, Sr. departed this walk of life on May 28, 2022. She was born March 12, 1931 to the late Deacon Horace Butler, Sr. and Sarah Eliza Smith Butler.


    At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Mars Hill Baptist Church in Hodges, where she was a faithful member of the Church. She served as Mother of the Church, Sunday School secretary for over 30 years, Missionary, member of the Senior choir. Hattie was a member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel and the 100 Ladies in White. She was a faithful member of the Women’s Aide Society #91, where she served as Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President.


    Hattie was a retired seamstress of 35 years at Nantex Industries, the Oxford, and Riegel Mills of Ware Shoals. She was a graduate of Brewer High School class of 1950. 


     Hattie met and married Charlie Hugh Aiken, Sr. on March 15, 1958 they enjoyed almost 45 years of marriage and to this union four children were born. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.


    Hattie was preceded in death by two uncles, James C. Smith and John Smith; two aunts, Lela Collins and Ruth Myers; five siblings, brothers, Fred Butler, Horace (Inez) Butler, Jr., Charles (Torrie) Butler and Mack (Annie) Butler; sister, Sarah Butler; son-in-law, Wade Kennedy, Sr.; two nephews, Larry Butler and DeRon Butler.


    Hattie leaves to cherish her memories two (2) sons, Charlie Dennis (Josie) Aiken, of Abbeville, SC and Ronnie H. (Alise) Aiken, of Augusta, GA; two (2) daughters, Alfreda Aiken Kennedy, of Greenwood, SC; and Althea Montrez Aiken, of Hodges, SC; ten grandchildren, four reared in the home, Tekola (Ryan) Moore, Andre (Shenequa) Aiken, Antwuan (Lashunda) Aiken, Latasha Aiken and Cedrik (Leilani) Aiken, Rodena Sagna, Michael Sagna, Jasmin Theil, Robert Adams, Wade Kennedy, Jr. and Denise Kennedy;  twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Mary Jean (William) Davis, Effie (Mack) Gladden, both of Honea Path, SC; Janie (Darrough) Aiken, of Abbeville, SC; Pauline Boyd, of Greenwood, SC; one aunt, Carrie Mae Smith, of Cokesbury, SC; one devoted cousin, Jessie R. Dole, of Columbus, OH; one devoted childhood friend, of 88 years, Elizabeth Trezevant, of Columbia, SC; nephews, Rev. Michael A. (Lynda) Butler, Anthony (Vera) Butler, Gregory Butler, Randy Butler, Richard Butler; nieces, Ernestine Tomlin, Evelyn (Robert) Miller, Katinka Butler, Ann (Clifton) Burns; a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
