Dorothy Bailey Tucker, 97, of 230 Cambridge Ave, widow of George Tucker, went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2023 at her home. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenwood, where she served faithfully and was honored to be name “Church Mother.”
Born September 16, 1926, in Clinton, SC. She received her education from Bell Street School in Clinton, SC. She is a graduate of Barber Scotia College in 1949, with a degree in education. She retired from Greenwood District 50 in 1997 after 20+ years in education. She was a member of R.L. Stevens Club, United Methodist Women’s’ Society and the Westside Community Club. Mrs. Tucker had a passion to serve and help others. She is known for her services at the Greenwood Soup Kitchen Ministry and her famous soup. She never met a stranger and loved to tell others about the Lord. She loved family, crossword puzzles and flowers.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sons Gerald Tucker and William Tucker.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Lillie Todd of the home; 17 grandchildren-3 reared in the home: Gerrika Kelley and Ferrald Kelley, both of Greenwood, and Gevron Kelley of Crestline, California; 42 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Harris United Methodist Church of Greenwood, with Pastor Thessa Smith officiating, Burial will follow at Evening Star Cemetery. Public viewing will be from 1-6 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023. The family is at the home. Arrangements are being handled by Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc.
