Willie Lee Mayes, 78, of 1405 McKenzie Road, widower of Gertrude Moss Mayes, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood he was the son of the late Jessie Thompson and the late Viola Mayes Fisher. He was a member of Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by, one son, Willie Lee Mayes, Jr., three brothers and four sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Willie T. Mayes and Dewayne Mayes of Chappells, and Kenny (Brenda) Mayes of Baltimore, MD; one daughter Melody Frazier of Delaware; seven brothers, James Ray (Betty) Thompson, Willie "Scatman" Fisher, Robert (Peggy) Fisher and Carl Thompson, all of Ninety Six, Doug Thompson of Laurens, Harold (Gwen) Thompson of Greenwood and Benny Earl "Legs"(Lula) Fisher of Queens, NY; one sister Barbara (Milledge) Morton of Greenwood; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Danny Webb. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
