Sam Arnold Obituary

Sam U. Arnold, 81, departed this life on, December 25, 2019, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, his wife Elizabeth was by his side as he transitioned home. Sam was the son of the late Park and Verda Starks Arnold.

Sam was a graduate of Brewer High School and a retiree of Schulmberger (Neptune) in 2000 after approximately 30 years of employment as a supervisor. At an early age he joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church and was a member of the adult choir, steward board, as well as serving as treasurer. Sam was an amazing golfer for many years he was a member of the Scramblers Golf Club, where he held many offices. He also served as a board member and chairman of supervisor for Emerald Credit Union, member of Black Management Association, a member of the investment association, served as Park Commission, volunteered to deliver meals on wheels.

In addition to Sam’s parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Carrie P. Sanders and Gladys A. Kilgore; four brothers, Richard, Albert, John Thomas and William Arnold.

He leaves to morn his passing, his devoted wife, Elizabeth C. Arnold, one son and five daughters; Sam U. Arnold (Cee), Beverly L. Arnold, of Greenwood, Jacqueline A.(Theodore) Rapp, of Greenwood, Cynthia M.(Vince) Coates, of Abbeville, Samanthia (Dedrick) Arnold-Gaskin, of Greenville and Tiffany R. Arnold, of Mauldin. Seven grandchildren, Seven great-grandchildren; One sister Mary A.(Willie) Williams, of Cokesbury and a host of nieces, nephews and family and friends to mourn his passing.

Services will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at noon, the body will be placed in the church at 11am, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church with Rev. Franklin Pruitt, pastor and presiding, Rev. Krystal Bryant, Officating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
