Ida Mae Gilchrist, 92, of 115 North Bethune Street, widow of David H. Gilchrist, died on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at her home. Born in Edgefield, she was the daughter of the late John Phillips and the late Janie Lou Holloway Phillips. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Society, was a member of the East End Heights Community Club and the Women’s Aide Society. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Patterson, four brothers, three sisters and two son-laws, William Louden and Chester Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, David E. Gilchrist of Greenwood; three daughters, Frances Louden of Ninety-Six, Ernestine Aiken of Greenwood and Dora Smith of Los Angeles; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Mars Hill Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Tommy Stanford. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
